Visiting Oak Spring

Arrangement in Greenhouse.jpg

The Oak Spring Garden Foundation is not typically open to the public for general admission due to local planning regulations. The Oak Spring estate and its facilities are used to host researchers, artists, and writers who come through a Fellowship or Residency program. We also host short courses and workshops relating to plants, gardens, and landscapes.

We love gardens and garden-lovers. While the county visitation restrictions on our site are out of our hands, we are committed to sharing the Oak Spring estate in such a way that is legally permissible and that also fits with and supports the work we are doing to advance our mission. In 2024, Oak Spring will have two open tour days in the spring, on April 25th and 26th as part of Virginia Historic Garden Week, a state-wide event organized by the Garden Club of Virginia. For the first time, we will also host two open tour days in the summer, on June 14th and 15th.

Visiting the Library

The Oak Spring Garden Library is a treasure trove of history and art relating to plants and gardens. While we are working hard to make more of the Library materials accessible online, the Library itself is only open to individuals who visit Oak Spring through one of our Fellowships, Residencies, or Short Courses. If you are interested in researching or working with the collections in the Oak Spring Garden Library, read about our Fellowships & Residencies.
