Raising Baby Chicks with the BCCF
OSGF
Ever thought about jumping on the chicken-keeping bandwagon (or should we say, coop?) As we spend more time at home, many people turn to gardening and farming as a way to decrease their reliance on grocery stores, as well as pick up sustainable and enjoyable new hobbies. Raising chickens is a wonderful way for beginning farmers to dip their toes into animal husbandry, and keep a fresh supply of eggs on hand.
While chickens are relatively cost-effective and easy to keep, there is still a lot to consider before you purchase your own flock. In the video below, the Biocultural Conservation Farm team talks about the process of brooding new baby chicks, and shows you the set-up for the 65 Shenandoah and Cub Run Creole chicks they recently purchased from Tangly Woods Farm in Keezletown, VA.
