Cauliflower
OSGF
Plant Family: Brassicaceae
Latin Name: Brassica oleracea var. Botrytis
Varieties We Grow: Depurple, Lavender, Earlisnow
Storage: Store loose or in a vented container/bag in the refrigerator. The cauliflower crown, or flowers, bruise easily, so be sure to treat delicately.
Cauliflower originated in the Mediterranean region and grows in a variety of different colors, like white, yellow, purple and even green. At the BCCF, we will be growing purple and white cauliflower– let us know if you can taste a difference!
Like most vegetables, cauliflower is great cooked and eaten raw. At the BCCF, we love to simply roast our cauliflower with olive oil, salt, pepper, chili flakes and garlic. We also suggest trying to incorporate cauliflower into dishes; it’s a great way to get more flavor and nutrients into basic meals. Cauliflower can be minced and used as a substitute for rice in dishes or made into pizza crust. Many love to make buffalo chicken wings or curries with cauliflower instead of chicken.
