Biocultural Conservation Farm Food Distribution Manager
Niamh Micklewhite is OSGF’s Biocultural Conservation Farm Food Distribution Manager. She first joined OSGF in January 2022 as a BCCF Apprentice before joining the BCCF’s leadership team as Food Distribution Manager in January 2023.
Niamh grew up in New York City and went to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where she graduated with a BS in Environmental Studies in 2019. Her major was concentrated in ecology and earth systems, and she completed most of her coursework in plant biology and plant physiology. Niamh’s senior thesis mapped the hydraulic architecture of ten cycad species. After college, Niamh briefly worked at a farm in East Hampton, NY before moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she worked as a research analyst at an environmental and economic consulting firm. During this time in Cambridge, Niamh realized her love for food and farming and decided to move back to East Hampton, NY to continue working in agriculture. She moved to Virginia in the Fall of 2021.
As the BCCF Food Distribution Manager, Niamh runs our 50-person, 25-week CSA program, oversees post-harvest operations at the BCCF pack house, and manages food pantry relations and donations. She also coordinates with OSGF’s Chef and Head of Culinary Services regarding weekly produce orders to the farm and participates in all other farming tasks at the BCCF, like seeding, field work, harvesting, and more.
Niamh spends much of her free time cooking, eating, and exploring all the great foods/drinks our area of Virginia has to offer. She also enjoys playing pickleball, spending time outside, hanging out with friends and family, and relaxing with her two cats. Niamh’s favorite plant to grow and eat is arugula (Eruca vesicaria), but also loves quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) and eastern redbud trees (Cercis canadensis).
